This recipe for Guacamole comes together easily and has a secret ingredient that brings extra freshness to your guac.
Just like most of the world, I started my working career as a waitress. And best of all, it was a Mexican restaurant where we made fresh guacamole tableside. It was the most delicious guacamole I had ever tasted. And it was so easy that I vowed to never buy pre-made guacamole again. Well, I have gone back on that vow but if I can help it, I make guacamole from scratch.
Elevate your guacamole with fresh squeezed orange juice. That's right, orange juice.
What made the guacamole so fresh and unique was the fresh squeezed orange juice. The juice from the orange provides the acid needed to keep the avocado from turning brown so quickly. But it also brings in a new level of freshness because fresh squeezed OJ is delicious.
Fresh Guacamole Recipe
2 Avocados, ripe
1/2 Red Onion, diced
Juice of 1 Lime
Juice of 1/2 Orange
1 Tbsp Garlic, minced
1 Tomato, seeded and diced
1 - 2 Jalapeno, seeded and diced
1/4 Cup Cilantro, minced
Pinch of Salt
Remove flesh from avocado by splitting the fruit in half and removing the pit. (See video for tips). With a spoon, scoop the flesh into a medium size bowl.
Mash avocado with a fork until there is a smooth consistency.
Add in onion, lime and orange juice and garlic. Mix with your fork until well incorporated.
Fold in tomato, jalapeno, and cilantro. Finish with a pinch of salt.
**Tip for freshness: You can make this recipe ahead of time. After making the guacamole, wrap in plastic wrap making sure that the plastic wrap touches the top of the guacamole to create a seal and preventing the air from touching the avocado. Avocado will oxidize once exposed to air. The acid in the juice and the plastic wrap will slow down the oxidation process. (#avocado #guacamole #secretingredient)
